How is it not "fair"? It sounds like a dog eat dog kind of game. I get that this is not for everyone. Not everyone enjoys that kind of risk (of losing their hard earned items) in their gameplay. Still, if you can do the same thing to them, doesn't that make it fair?

Many people don't like it when there are harsh consequences for dying either. There are certain types of players that really enjoy that kind of risk though, and they want things to be challenging and more realistic.

I haven't played DayZ, but I have to say that after reading through this thread, I am intrigued.

Sounds like a fun game though. I've definitely wanted to give this game a try but I've never had the time to. I think a similar game that is extremely popular at the moment is Player Unknown's Battlegrounds. Maybe give that a try as well?

I have heard of this game, but I never really looked into it. Can you tell us a little more about it?

From the title, I'm guessing it's a PvP only game. That means lots of ganking. Does it also have harsh penalties for death and stuff? What are the battlegrounds like, or is it more of an open world thing where the word is the battleground?

I've seen trailers, gameplay, screenshots, and even sales on it, but I never got any interest so I never touched it. It's basically an online game like the rest, so I really didn't feel like they hooked me into a new gameplay experience. With new games coming out daily that offer the same if not better experience, why should I throw money at these guys?

I have watched some streamers playing this game, and i think Dayz is a fun game to play with friends online, taking in consideration if you enjoy survival games. I personally think it has an interesting concept and I recommend it.

I have followed some streams with it, and it does look like fun if you're playing with friends. Personally, I'm not that much of a fan of games where you have to start over every time you die. I like to feel like I'm actually progressing through the game. That's probably why I haven't ever given it a shot.
When I asked a friend who played it why he did, though, he said the exact opposite. He likes to build up his character to the point the previous one reached every time, especially if he has to fight other people in the process. I'd probably be disheartened by that, instead. It's a survival game, why can't we just cooperate?
