Is it hard to be the Support?

As I mentioned before I love playing as Ad-carry on League of Legends and I talked about the Support role. I like playing as Supp too, I really enjoyed it, maybe it's because as an Adc main I know how I wanted a Support would be, so I try by best to fulfill my own expectations.
Does someone here like to play this role?
I think is one of the most important ones, they give us vision, starts the teamfights (sometimes), they deny enemy vision, they help and protect a lot, what else can they do?

I used to main support a couple of seasons ago. I really enjoyed it but also really hated it. I just often felt so helpless when my team decided to throw the game and I had no major impact. I think once you reach a certain ELO (gold and above) that it's pretty much impossible to carry as a support that's why I began playing other lanes - mainly top and middle.

I do still enjoy supporting but only if/when I play with my friends and I can fully trust them. Getting a random ADC player is like gambling. You never know if you'll win or lose.

I like to play utility support when I know I'll be playing with a team who likes to play with strategy, but when it's to play solo Q I like to play aggressive supports like Braum because it has more impact on it's own without having to worry too much about running around the ADC so he doesn't die.

I completely understand, and it's something funny: if you're the adc you can get a bad support. If you're the supp you can get a terrible adc hahaha it's so hard to deal with that lane. But I will always love to play on it, even tho the problems I think it's my favorite lane.

That's great, I like it. Braum is very powerful, but if I'll be aggressive I think I'll be using Morgana or Karma, sometimes I troll and go Lux support haha just because I don't trust in my adc, so I build a lot of ap :)

Haha, yeah, I do agree that there are plenty of bad supports out there too. A lot of them don't fully understand the laning phase. They often let the enemy support/ADC just harass them for free without really exchanging the damage.

Another problem that you have to face in the bottom lane as a support or as the ADC is the fact that it's the only double lane in the game - there are players with individual playstyles and sometimes the two don't mesh well together. For example; an aggressive support with a passive ADC will never work and the same goes for the other way around.

I feel that Riot has made it a lot easier to play as support, and I don't mean the role has gotten mechanically easier. Before sightstone, Supports were the expected to be the sole carriers of wards, pinks(now control wards), and oracles(think 4 minute red trinket). But with the addition of warding trinkets, (non purchase warding), the support isn't the only one responsible for vision on the map.

In addition, many the mastery changes have allowed non-aggressive supports to make meaningful impacts and allows champions with shields like Janna, Karma, Lulu, to gain from the WindSpeaker's Blessing keystone, and just do more overall, not just rewarding damaging ad or ap. More support items and fun support items help the role not stagnate, redemption is extra cool because you can use it after you are dead.

Exactly, finally someone that understand me. Those are a few reasons why it's so hard to play on that lane, you don't even know the play style of you teammate so it's makes everything worst as you said. That's why they recommend to have a duo to play bottom, and that's the best, of course when it's someone you can relate very well with.

I agree, now everyone can help with the vision, there's no excuses to don't do it. Another thing is that the jungle can buy support items and it makes everything easier.
I love all the changes that Riot made to the supports.

While I played the game, I played mid and support, but mostly support. It is hard, because you have to watch on everything, your adc, warding, enemy missing and stuff like that. Everything depends on you. And if support does good in battles it can turn the tides big time.

Completely, it's super hard to take an eye on everything, and sometimes people don't understand that :(

Yep! I think that's the hardest thing to do, especially for new players. It can get quite overwhelming and you can get lost while doing it - you forget about your own lane and only focus on other things such as map, wards which results in defeat.

I remember when I first began playing support, I didn't know where I should be focusing most of my attention; my own lane or the surrounding areas for wards and things like that. You are also expected to always ping and time the cooldowns for summoners spells. Tough job.

Yes, exactly. And of course it always comes down to support and the jungle, if these mess up then all the blame falls on them. Which is sad and it is very overwhelming as you said.

It's not my preference, but it's certainly not easy thing to do... However, at the same time I don't think it's that difficult if you really focus on what you need to do. It takes just a little extra attention. :sunglasses:

I main ADC and only play support if I'm autofilled to the role. I'm not a great at playing support, but as an ADC main, I know what I like to have in a support player, so I try to play as a support that I'd want to play with. The only two supports I really play are Leona and Karma, as I'm not comfortable taking any other ones into lane, especially if I don't know my ADC.

But to answer your question, yes, I think being a support is hard. At least for me, anyway. As someone who's used to being a squishy, damage-dealing, snowballing showoff, it takes a huge change of mindset and playstyle to instead be a tanky, life-saving, self-sacrificing support instead. I have unending respect for good support players.

Its really a challenging role because your not just watching your character but also the team's character as well. With MOBA, support players are not that difficult because their roles are limited to either hold enemy, cast the first damaging Ulti, or heal. The difficult part of being a support character is the timing. If your timing is off set, the clash will not favour your team.

No, absolutely not. I love being the support, for me that's the most easy role, it's super super fun, every time I don't want to make a huge effort on a game I choose to be the supp.
I love playing things like Morgana, Karma, Lulu, Janna, Blitz XD it's very fun, and when I play as support I think that I forget about stress, I don't think that I MUST play perfect, I just do my best, help my team and sometimes that's enough.

For me support is life in all games. Yes having a strong adc is very much important but being a support gives the chance to turn the tides in your team's favor. It can help a losing lane by roaming to that lane and gangling for a kill. A support should have a keen eye whoever needs the very best support during crucial team fights. I really do enjoy playing that role because i dont feel any blame or any pressure in any game. In order to become a good support and not to be left behind you must also have a good adr for early game advantage.

Think of it this way: all the other summoners have their own lanes to worry about, with the other one farming in the jungle. They are all preoccupied doing whatever they should do in lane like CSing. The support though, wouldn't need to CS so all you have to do is peel for your carry on the early stages of the game. And remember that you will also be managing vision. Good support players know when to acquire and deny vision. You should know that winning a lot of team fights mostly depends on whether you have a decent amount of vision all over the map. Having vision lets you control the game. Is it hard being a support? Yes. But you should know that it is really rewarding when your teammates are doing good and that they know they're in a good spot because of that trinket you put beforehand. Being a support is rewarding.

Hello brother ;)

Everything depends on the synergy that you have with the ADC player, and your decision making when you are playing.
You can be the self-proclaimed "Best support player" of your server, and still have the worst games ever because of your opponents or the ADC of your team. Being support is hard but at the same time rewarding, at least I felt like that when I played.
When I started to play as ADC after some years of supporting, I understood the reality of having a bad or good support and how sometimes you just don't have any kind of synergy with the support player. I lost many games because of that.
In conclusion,
Yes, It is hard. When your team doesn't know how to play as a team, or feed.

Supports can carry but don't expect miracles with a team of not so good players...
