From IGN,

Today, Kotaku posted a story containing alleged details on Sony's next home console, the PlayStation 4. Kotaku claims that the details of the story "come from a reliable source who is not authorized to talk publically about next-gen hardware but has shared correct information with [the publication] before." According to this source, the next PlayStation is codenamed Orbis and will launch in the 2013 holiday season.

Kotaku notes that the predicted specs of the Orbis currently include an AMD x64 CPU and AMD Southern Islands GPU. The source told Kotaku that "select developers" have already received dev kits at the beginning of the year and revised kits arrived around the time of the Game Developers Conference earlier this month.

Furthermore, according to Kotaku's source, Orbis will not feature backwards compatibility with PlayStation 3 games and will incorporate some sort of used-games restriction. Apparently, once a consumer inserts a Blu-ray disc into Orbis it must be tied to a PSN account and can no longer be shared. The data can be installed onto the system and flagged as "downloaded" from the PSN so it can be re-downloaded for future use. Sources are "unclear" as to how the disc functions following this, though one possibility is that the disc can allow consumers to access trial content before purchasing the full game on their console.

IGN contacted Sony for a comment on these rumors. The official response: "we don't comment on rumors or speculation." If any other details emerge, we will update this article.

Really wondering if these are true. What do you think?

WOW! Orbis is a pretty cool name. I think it's true enough. I think you should have paraphrased it lol. I didn't even realize the name Orbis was the name until I read the paragraph before the last lol.

It could just be a codename like Durango is for the next-gen Xbox.

Not impressed with that. So what happens if just after the warranty runs out my ps4 dies and can't be fixed? Then I've got hundreds of dollars worth of games that I can't use on my new console. That would seriously make me think about avoiding the ps4 all together. Probably won't though. Lol

As far as I have read on the internet, the rumor is right. Playstation 4 is on its way to the market. However, the restrictions about gaming on a PS4 I am reading on your quoted material above are somewhat new to me. I never read anything like that, as a matter of fact, I read it somewhere that PS4 is going to be completely backward compatible with PS3. But if the possibility of backward compatibility is ruled out, I don't really see any worth in buying a PS4 until a really good game is released exclusively for PS4. But then again, who would buy an entire new system for just one great game? So it will have to be hundreds of awesome games exclusively on PS4 before it can get the users to buy an all new PS4.

I'm not so sure the Ps3 still has alot of potential that still hasant been achieved by Developers, honestly I'm not looking at the PS4. I'm more focused on the future of the current console the ps3.

I don't see a PS4 coming out anytime soon. In my opinion the next-gen consoles are a bit to early to come out just yet. Maybe in the next 2-3 years, but just not now. The current consoles are still fitting the bill for todays games. :)

From what I have seen lately on the Internet, this rumor is right, in fact PS4 was launched on the market in November 2013, It competes with Xbox and Nitendo. Some users say that PS4 worth all the money and dedication, but i heard negativ rumors too.
I prefer to keep my PS3 at this moment and wait for more reviews to be posted and make an real opinion about it!

I am reading about those rumors since 2012 and no idea when the final date is going to be. I think depending on the actions of the Sony and their targeting this new release will take time. I think cost may also increase. You can see that it may take around 2018 to release the device. Or maybe even 2019. It would be harder to say anything on this issue.

PS4 has been out for a while, I don't think this thread is relevant anymore and everyone's been happy with Sony since, well mostly everyone. I'd like to know what the next innovation for the next generation of consoles will be but with PS4 pro out, feels like that will extend the life of the PS4 for another 3-4 years.
