What do you think of random matchmaking?

Do you like LFR, or (as a another poster stated) does it make you lazy? Do you like random dungeons, raids, and even battlegrounds?

I think the system is certainly convenient, but random bg's and stuff can be pretty terrible. It's kind of hard to get a bunch of random people who will likely never see each other again to cooperate. I have had some good groups, especially in dungeons, but random BG's just really aren't much fun any more.

Random match-making can be interesting. It's somewhat like a real-life situation. Let's say, you join a company. That's a whole bunch of people you do not know. You have to learn how to get on with them, how to work with them. And you have to learn to do that quickly.

Ingame, random matchmaking throws you the same challenge. If you get matched with a bunch of people who, in your opinion, shouldn't be playing the game at all, what is the best that you can do with the people you have ended up with? It's a challenge, isn't it?

Good point. I generally do okay in dungeons or even LFR if I'm running some alts. I guess I just don't have much patience for randoms in BG's, because so many refuse to even try to do the objectives. They farm HK's or run around like crazy people, but I like to play the game as intended. I also like to win, lol.

It is a challenge though. Very true. Thanks for the perspective.

Dungeon finder has been a good addition to wow. Even though the bad side is that the social aspect is kinda dead. But I could not have the patience to form and run a custom group.

I think it was a necessary evil although I admit it really damaged the social aspect of the game. Back in the old days if you acted like a jerk and got a bad reputation on your server, your expansion was essentially over after questing. No one wanted to put up with that when they're just trying to have fun in casual raids, or require the intense teamwork necessary to do the harder variants. Now it's just group after group of "gogogo" and mouthiness. But on the other hand, I also remember entire afternoons trying to get a group together and then failing, your entire gaming session shot on a single dungeon. I don't exactly look back on that with rosy glasses.

Well LFR and LFG has been implemented and part of WoW for a while now and even though I am a vanilla player I love this addition.

I just don't have time to find groups for two hours then spend two more clearing dungeons... In vanilla days, yes the social aspect was much better but it was so, so time-consuming. Now it is easy and fast, like it should be. I do the daily heroics and LFR weekly and I have a nice time. I like getting put in groups with complete strangers because you never know how it will end up. I have had some bad experiences where people were complete idiots but I also had great random matchmaking... Some people I even added on the battle.net

Overall, I enjoy it and it was a good thing. It revived the dungeons and raids and made us more connected cross-realms.

Yeah, I get it. A lot of people say the same thing. I remember having fun back then though, and meeting lots of cool people.

I've also wasted entire afternoons waiting in a long queue only to get in a dungeon or raid that was already started then having to wait again for another queue to get the bosses I missed. I've also been stuck inside for hours with people who have no idea what they're doing and wipe the group, or just go AFK and put someone on follow. Six of one, half dozen of another, I guess.

I don't like it.

It ruins one of the best aspects of WoW: The Social Scene. The way matchmaking includes other servers makes it really hard to create ingame friendships.

I don't appreciate playing versus a very experienced player, being me a noob at certain game, that's why I don't fully enjoy the concept of Random Matchmaking, but I can see some interesting potential for these games, in which you might learn a thing or two from those players, even though your pride is in the dirt :p

I agree. Group finders are one of the things that drove my husband from the game, especially once all the cross realm stuff took over. You just don't make friends like you used to. People aren't as friendly, because they don't have to be. Most of the people you "meet" in a group finder, you will never see again. You can play the game start to finish without ever speaking to another person now. That is not a quality of an MMORPG.

I think it is a great idea but the execution is mostly flawed. They should definitely match better the players so you would never be up against a much more experienced one but most of the times noobs tend to suffer a bit. I have seen one or two games in which this system was ok.

I'm an on and off player, but years ago you could expect advice or warnings with more experienced players, but still you probably woulnt see them again unless you partied or were grinding for the same thing.

Yeah, when it comes to matchmaking in PvP, all bets are off. You might face an RBG team or arena team that is far more highly rated than yours. In random BGs geared, experienced, players are tossed in with noobs too. Then again, this kind of thing happens for instances as well. I just don't think they have enough players left to truly make good and fair matches. That, and not everyone plays at the same times. To avoid even longer queues, sometimes, you just have to deal with whatever you get.

Yes, that is a very valid point you make here. Still a possible solution would be to better balance the game so that players wouldn't improve so quickly or wouldn't build their character so much without some sort of risk. I used to play a mafia game where the only way to build your attack stat was to kill other players and with every shot you took there was a 1% that you could get killed instead. A good way to balance things out.

Well, I think some people have earned that competitive edge. They've worked hard to master their skills, get the best gear, enchants, etc. I don't think they should be penalized for that or held back for those who don't play as competitively.

At the same time, I don't think it's fair (or fun) for the lesser geared/lesser skilled to face them in battle either. It would be great if they system could match people who are at similar levels.

Personally I'm not a big fan of this aspect of the game because as one user put it it makes the game less competitive. Another thing I don't like about it is it takes the true adventure and excitement added a big chunk of the game. The game becomes more repetitive and less focuses on adventure and cooperation with other players. Well that's what I think about this what do you guys think?
