As part of its new marketing campaign, Nintendo has decided to create advertisements that show recognizable athletes and actors playing their 3DSs while insisting that they're not gamers.

I understand that appealing to non-gamers is a great way to reach a new audience, but this is kind of confusing to me, especially Gabrielle Douglas' commercial. The gold-medal Olympian is playing New Super Mario Bros. 2, bragging about her high score, but then says, "I'm not a gamer," as if to say, don't worry, I don't actually play these things.

Dianna Agron likes to draw pie.

Check out the ads below, and let us know if they inspire you to buy a 3DS XL.

Yeah, I am going to buy an expensive handheld to just play crappy drawing games ? I mean they are trying to make the DS look like a tablet.

Yeah probably these celebrities get to keep the 3DSs after the commercial and they probably throw them away as soon as the Nintendo crew leaves

Haha yeah right, I don't think they even get to keep the DS maybe they would get a Discount for one but I don't think they would get one for free :p

Actually I think the advertising is smart. The future of gaming is trending towards tablets and Nintendo knows that. Their message here is a little vague for sure but I think the overall point is to pull in people whom you wouldn't consider themselves "hardcore" gamers but do enjoy them. I can't knock Nintendo too much for this considering their track record for driving the gaming industry. They continually come out with products that keep things fresh.
