It was discovered that playing computer and video games and getting so deep into doing it can save and prevent the minds from getting worried, bothered, stressed and from being affected by all sorts of trials and harsh situations of life? Physicians have come to realize that recommending such adventure games can provide over 60% of what constitutes the total healing.

Computer and video games are now recommended in the hospitals, particularly to those patients going through some sorts of mental distress, personal discomfort, financial sickness and other heart-touching conditions of life.

Is there a source for this? I'd like to see it. Either way, this seems very interesting. I've always used gaming as an escape from reality, especially back then. During my teenage years, I was a very shy guy who was usually considered as the boring one in the group, but when I started to play MMOs, I had the chance to recreate myself and escape from the image that I've projected in real life and become somebody else. Eventually, I just became who I was in MMOs, which is the chatty, happy-go-lucky guy that I am.

Some doctors are cynical about games and computers. For instance, they claim the screens has some sort of effect on the brain similar to cocaine. :tongueout: Nonetheless, despite my agreement with it, I don't really care. :unamused: I think there is more than meets the eye and that these particular doctors haven't researched the stuff enough. I mean, I'd say probably coffee has the same effect of cocaine.

Well, I think that most parents (if not all) would disagree with this one :D But I would like to see them reading this if it is any true, but it does make some sense though. We do play games to get relieved and avoid any stress, and have fun of course.

It keeps your mind busy. You get faster decision making skills and even faster reflexes because you have to react to things in-game quickly or face the consequences. It also makes you memorize things better, since games sometimes involve you memorizing the map layout to make sure you don't fall into the traps. Games also have puzzles which help you think critically, and some of the best puzzles I have found all came from video games. There's also that kid that survived a bear attack by playing dead, which he apparently learned from playing a video game.

I would say that some benefits are also being able to relax and escape reality for a while. Studies have also shown that people who play video games have better reaction timing so that's pretty cool as well :)

I think that society is pretty torn when it comes to this opinion, because there is still the stereotype that video games are just a useless form of entertainment that was intended for children to play. In my opinion, I would have to say that video games absolutely do have benefits. If I'm feeling particularly stressed or anxious, a good relaxing game (such as Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing) can quickly bring me back into a more positive mind state.

Video games have also taught me patience. When I play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive I often get frustrated and angry when I start getting killed. However, I notice that the angrier I get the less focused I am and the worse I play. Because of this experience, I've taught myself that I need to stay calm, focused and patient during stressful times and ultimately that clearheaded state of mind is going to work to my advantage.

I agree with you. Society and people always choose to see the negative and bad sides of video games. They always neglect the positives. I guess it is easier to point out the bad effects.

You can answer your question in my different ways. Different people see different advantages. Gaming might be relaxing for me, but it can be stressful for somebody else

For me, playing games has numerous different advantages:
- games relax me,
- games occupy my mind,
- games give me social interaction,
- games teach me new things,
- games show me things I have never seen before,
- games improve my memory,
- games improve my reflex,
- games make me more creative.

Those are just a few advantages. Gaming shouldn't be seen as a bad thing because it isn't if you play in moderation.

Yup, all about moderation. People actually get heart attacks from playing too long. Can you believe that? People wear diapers so they don't have to go to the bathroom, they eat on their desks during gaming marathons during cutscenes, and they don't even sleep regularly. It's all about limiting it and still maintaining a balance in life. It's not all about gaming since after, it's just a game.

Damn, diapers?? all I heard about was peeing in the bottle, haha. However, I got no idea how I would do that as a female :) but yeah, it is true. I honestly don't know how people manage those 24+ hours marathons. I'd fall asleep after 10 hours of straight playing... it is absolutely crazy to even attempt it. You always have extreme cases, not just in video games - it is the society that chooses to expose only those though and scraps all of the benefits that you can find.

Yeah apparently all those years trying to learn how to not pee yourself or take a crap on your pants would be wasted just so you don't have to go up to go to the bathroom. I've seen testimonies of hardcore MMORPG players - who for some reason don't want to get up from their chairs - of relearning how to take a piss while wearing a diaper. Adult ones like the elder people use when they lose control of bodily functions because of age. Yikes.

Your vision may improve. This seems to be completely opposite to the old belief that if you sat too close to the computer or TV, then your vision would be negatively affected. Well, your are not actually going to sit that close to the TV with most computer games now, since the cords for the controllers are much longer. We are able to sit on the opposite side of the room.

Computer and video games have their advantages. They engage your mind, make you think, I can totally see how it would help someone keep their mind active. They also promote problem solving skills and such. Not to mention a lot of them are educational. As long as you're not addicted to them, they can bring many benefits to people.

I dunno about that. I've been sitting in front of the PC for work for the past 5 years, and I kinda needed glasses after the 2 year mark. It's eye strain and most of the sites have white layouts, so staring at them for a long period of time can really hurt the eyes. But hey, wearing glasses instantly fixes it, so I can't say it's not worth it. Typing stuff and drawing stuff on the PC is a lot better than manual labor, right?

I would agree with that. It certainly helps me relieve my stress and also it builds hand eye coordination in the process which is always a plus. Not many people realize that!

Yes righ.
What i mean, nowaday it's not like before. I talk about video games can improve the vision if you don't sit so close to the TV or computer.

Hi there
It's mainly for mental relaxation to go after video or computer games. It gives us great fun and we can improve our horizon. Mainly children and college goers flock to these games for time-pass or to relax from their regular daily schedule. To avoid boredom and get some thrilling experience people do play video or computer games. These games will also give us vision and great ideas. We can also develop skills from these games that will help us in real life.
Thanks.

Video and computer games relieves stress and keeps you happy. I admire old people who make time to play games, they don't feel as old as they are and have fun.

Besides the fact that playing games makes me forget about the real life, all the problems and stress goes away....it would be that some games promote a whole-body level of interaction, even those requiring a simple handheld controller can lead to physical activity and the rise of multi-player experiences online has given way to a new form of socializing in which players work together to solve problems.
