Question For You American Folks

Ok so I was thinking about this before and well. In the UK if youre sick. You mean you aren't feeling well or that you've been sick but if I watch any American film if someone says they're sick they start saying theyre going to die like they are terminally ill. So my question is is that what you guys mean by being 'sick'

Sick, you just have a cold or something.

Or, sick as a 'gentle' way of saying someone is going to die.

As far as i know, British people don't use say sick when they have a cold, we just say.. we have a cold..

Sick means actually vomiting or a bad flu.

When someone is dying, we say.... they are dying...

If we're sick then we say " Get the Priest" Because we're going to die. I never go to the doctor for influenza or anything like that unless i've been run over by a truck I'll be fine eventually.
