Sonic Mania comes out on August 15th. Who's excited? As for me, I haven't been excited about a Sonic title in a long time. The game seems to be a remastered version of past sonic games. While I love the classics, I can't help but feel as though they're "beating a dead horse" with this one.

Is this new game creative? Or are Sonic games becoming a thing of the past?

I'm sad to say this but Sonic games are only getting worse and worse over the years. I feel like the only good Sonic games were the original ones. I wouldn't say that they're beating a dead horse but they've got no more creativity anymore or too much of it in some cases.

Yeah, it feels excessive to try to squeeze even more money out of the classic Sonic games. Still, this only feels like a treat in anticipation of Sonic Forces, which would definitely be a great game if it ends up being even half as good as Generations (which...is also a remake, ironically). Hopefully they'll be able to deliver a fun experience with brand new ideas this time around, but SEGA's recent doings on the series doesn't make me hope for the best. I've lost count of how many mobile games they have released, and the the last original console games they have made are huge clusterfucks.
Still... releasing Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces so close to each other makes me feel more optimistic, for some reason. Let's wait and see.

Yes, it's some sort of an old thing.Nobody does care about 2d games anymore unless it's quite exceptional. In this case it's same as pointed above that it's an old game and Sega needs to move on with it. 18 bucks for an old game no way..... Sonic forces is what i am excited for !

I love Sega especially their 2K sports franchise. However, I think that Sony has been degrading as time goes by. It didn't age as well as Mario. The last great Sonic game that I played was way back in the Sega Genesis. The succeeding titles felt like a rehash of the previous titles with no originality whatsover.

Also, I'm no longer into platform games as much as I did when I was a bit younger. Maybe if I was still, say, 14 years old, I would probably be excited for this game. But now, I'm just not interested.

I will admit that before the release I was not happy about the level retreads, and I remain resolute in my wish that they had simply made all new levels after having defeated the last boss. Having said that, they actually do manage to justify the retreads in an interesting way and all of them have new mechanics and surprises that blunt the frustration of revisiting zone themes that I've been playing for the last 20 years. My hope is that this is the beginning of a paradigm for Sega where there is a 3D sonic game, and a 2D franchise, a la Nintendo's approach to Mario games with the 3D flagship title and the "New Super Mario Bros" series. If Sonic Mania leads to more good 2D Sonic games then I will consider it a smashing success.

I love Sega and Sonic i am enjoying Sonic Mania the past week and i really love it! I wish people get more involved in retro style gaming. Its good to return to where everything started. 16 bit era in the 1990s was a really great time to be a gamer! Nowadays its a great time to be a gamer as well. It is not a bad thing to play old games because if these games did not exist we would not have the games we play today! There is a huge progress in gaming if you take a look at the old games and compare them to the new ones so do not stop remembering good old days and keep playing the new games as well!

I don't think I've even played a Sonic game. I grew up with Mario (and not a lot of it), Crash Bandicoot, and the Pokemon games. Content-wise, I think Pokemon had the most story since they shell out a couple of new games every year, while I never liked those oldies where you die after getting hit by one enemy. I prefer adventure (like Crash Bandicoot) with checkpoints, challenges, etc. Not platform ones like Mario and Sonic where you start all over when you lose all your lives.

Really it depends on if their adding anything to the story at this point or if its some "going to the past to stop an alternate future and then going to space" nonsense. But if the game play is good and the story makes mild amounts of sense then I'd say their not milking it yet (not to say their not).
