I am just curious how much you will invest into a new PC?
Can you share some details?
It will be used for games or graphics or normal use?
It will be used mainly for gaming. However, I might consider getting a stronger CPU and more RAM depending on my need to edit videos. I will add one monitor to make it become a rig with dual-monitor setup.

it's really expensive in my country to upgrade computer hardware. Honestly I would just do it when it has completely shut down otherwise I just can't afford to buy a new one every 2 years. Right now, I don't think I could buy one even if it gets damage and couldn't function at all...

Well, I have bought my current computer around 2 years ago and I haven't upgraded anything just yet. I don't feel like it's needed right now. I'd only perhaps upgrade my graphics card but then I'd also have to get a better power supply unit since my current one is crap... so it would end up getting a bit too expensive. I will keep on the current hardware and when I feel like I can't play the games that I enjoy, I will upgrade :)
Yes, it depends on our requirement to buy or not buy new hardware to play the game. Doing upgradation every time is not good you have to spend much money in that. Better sell your old computer and get new one that have advanced configuration.

A few months ago when I upgraded from my Sapphire 7970 to a GTX 1060 6GB. It's a significant improvement both in performance in the game and in the software support itself. Radeon stuff have errors in updates and I can't even open their program most of the time. When I switched to Nvidia, every software update was on time, I can use the programs to tweak the performance of my games, and all in all a pretty better experience all around.

Well last time I upgraded was when I actually bought my computer back in 2012, to replace my dying laptop. If I had more money, I would probably upgrade every 3 years maybe? But alas, I usually end up waiting until my PC starts to bottleneck quite hard with one of the parts. At the moment, that is my 660ti, which is bottlenecking my Intel i5 3570. Unfortunately, graphics card prices have skyrocketed, so It is going to be quite some time before I upgrade again. Honestly, I end up playing my PS4 a lot more because I just can't afford to upgrade my GPU, whereas I know my PS4 is going to last until the next console generation.

If you play more AAA games, I believe there is a need to upgrade maybe every 3 years depending on the card you start with. As of now, I'm playing games which are not graphics intensive so my PC should last for around 6 years before I opt to get new parts.

Four years ago, when I bought my new laptop. I barely managed to play anything on the one I had previously, so I had to stick to retrogaming (very retro) and console gaming. I had never known the wonders of modern PC gaming until then, and I can't see myself without some gems (read as: Portal 2) now. They'll forever stuck with me.

I bought a Dell in 2005 and after seven years I finally decided to break down and build a rig for the first time. Between those systems I upgraded my graphics card twice. The nice thing about building my own machine is that I'll feel more comfortable with upgrading other components. I don't know if there is rule of thumb when and what you upgrade.

I usually upgrade my pc when theres is a game coming out I really want to play, and can't run it on current configuration. However, that happens rarely, usually every 2 or 3 years.

Probably last year around November. I forgot what day was it though. I had to change my aftermarket cooler and case because I wanted to have a bigger tower instead of a mini tower. So yeah so far all is going well, at least for now.
