Movies into Games

And vice versa....

What films are there made into games and what are your opinions on them?

Most are crap and most are not handled right.

I know movie games like goldeneye 64 are epic. And I don't know if there are any good movie based video games made.

The only one I have is a Meet the Robinson's video game and the gameplay is horrible. So is the storyline.

Almost all games I played that was movie into games are complete crap. Now every time when I see a movie turned into a game I will never even bother playing it.

I only remember playing Tron after the new version of Tron was released and the game was kind of boring. I don't remember it very well but I know I had it for PlayStation 3. Where there more movies turned into games?

Movies based on videogames mostly suck, and there is another topic where I stated what the good ones are (Wreck It Ralph and Scott Pilgrim, both generic and not directly referencing a single game).

But when talking about games based on movies... well, mostly suck too but there are a few that are actually good. Even better than the movie, like the 2000 version of Alien VS Predator! A Classic!
The Chronicles of Riddick - which is most a prequel of the movies, but it counts anyway I guess - is pretty awesome too. Both games, but sadly they were removed from Steam I think.
Let's see... most Star Wars and Indiana Jones titles are good too, and I enjoyed a lot Jurassic Park Operation Genesis, because running a dinosaur zoo is freaking awesome!
Ghostbuster, the game from some years ago (it keep getting removed and re-added on Steam) is what the sequel should have been.
And many Disney tie-in are actually pretty good (old stuff like Aladdin, Lion King, not-too old stuff like Toy Story 2 and A Bug's life).
Oh and there was that old FPS about The Thing! That was awesome!

Ok that was quite a long post... maybe they don't actually suck that much. I probably forgot one or two.

I like your list there @Xilkozuf and you have mentioned almost the good and classic games based on movies. I too have played The Chronicles of Riddick and The Golden Eye. Also Disney's Alladin and Toy Story 2. I really like d the Disney games though. I played The Incredibles but I liked the movie than the game as to me the game was kind of tough to finish. Not all the games are bad though.

Well in my case I think I am more open minded about it. I love movies and I love games, so if one of my favorite movies becomes a game too... of course I would give it a try. I am a Harry Potter addict, and being honest I also loved the Harry Potter game.

I think it's a flawed notion, to be honest. While cinematic elements have made it into games, it's a false equivalency to compare the two mediums. What makes film great is different from what makes games great, so attempts to adapt the two mediums between each other are destined to leave gamers unhappy with the results most of the time. This is even true if the game to movie adaptation happens to be good. You're still not in control of the characters so they're not going to explore the facets of that world you would have.

I liked what they did with the games like Madmax, NFS, POP, and all. The films didn't really compare to the actual games, though, but they weren't falling back either. Particularly POP. Their actors deserve applause. Also if a movie were to be made into a game then I don't think that it will be a justice to the movie or the game. There maybe few exceptions though. Such as godfather. That's classic.(*_*)/"!

Ugh, navigating the genres of movie video games and video game movies is such a minefield. Maybe you'll find a gem here and there but it's really just a bunch of stuff that'll blow your head off. There probably isn't a single video game movie that can be regarded as great, but I suppose movies like Prince of Persia, Max Payne, and Resident Evil are watchable as films but butcher the source material.

Spider-Man 2, GoldenEye 007, The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers/Return of the King, those on the other hand are some of the more decent movie video game adaptations. All in all I'd say that video games are better at adapting movies than movies are of video games.

Usually, games that are turned into movies suck. Take for instance Resident Evil. Yes, the movies were profitable but the movies were just bland. Another example is Final Fantasy Advent Children which is based on FFVII. That movie was so boring, I regret watching it. Another is Tomb Raider. I like Angelina Jolie, she truly is the real life counterpart of Lara Croft, but the movie was just stale.

How bout movies to games? Uh... Have you played Fast and Furious on mobile? No? Good. Don't waste your time. Casper video games anyone? Cheetah Girls video game? The Crow... Godzilla... My goodness. They're all awful. Here's a complete list.

There are some that rise above the trash though like Spiderman and Scarface and The Warriors. But aside from that exceptions, movies to video games and video games to movies suck in general.

I don't know what to think about the Resident Evil (animated) films. They have characters from the game like Leon, Claire, Chris, etc; but the stories are kinda cheesy when you watch them. Sure, you see more of your favorite characters, but the dialogue and plot really can't take me to their universe, and I really can't help but feel like these guys are invulnerable since they still have games to be in. So I don't really know if they are canon or not.

Most movie based video games are terrible games only made to grab money out of people who liked the movie. I'd like more video games made into movies but unfortunately they seem to do terrible or aren't well made to reflect what people liked about the game. Examples like Warcraft and Assassins Creed come to mind. I'd want a movie based of The Last of Us. I think that would be a really nice movie that would be pretty simple to turn into a movie.

I've played Star Wars and Star trek versions and they are good, the Resident Evil and Silent Hill are really great, specially the soundtracks, the dialogues not really nice though, also I thought the Assassins Creed adaptation was going to be a fail, but based on the fact they had to put everything in just 2 hours of movie, they gathered the basics and went well. At least, I enjoyed it.

Oh The Incredibles, I forgot about that.. I loved it on my PS2 years, even if I never managed to beat is since it was so freaking hard! The second fight against the Omnidroid by the waterfalls, in particular. I have no idea why it was so hard, maybe I was just a young dumb kid who sucked at games, but I remember it that despite this fact it was a good game.
There were even a sequel with the villain from the last scene of the movies, but I think that with the upcoming actual movie sequel that game will be erased from existence.

Most people don't know this but Maze runner was first a book, then a movie and then a game! so I'll say yes to this order. I quite like the idea of knowing the history line of the game and if there's a book involve even better. I'll sure buy it!

I have to be brutally honest and say that most movies that are turned into games end up being really crap. I don't know if the developers think that because a movie was a hit that they can just smack something together and sell it as an ''awesome'' game but it doesn't work like that. Games are a completely different thing to movies and people seem to forget that. You have to know what you're doing and it isn't easy. There will be many things in the story line and so on that, you have to adjust so it fits the gaming world.

The movies that were made into games that I can recall are the Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Saw, Terminator, Star Wars, Friday the 13th and more.

Movies into games are ALWAYS the worst games out on the market. And if you watch the movie before playing the game is makes the experience even worse. Just look at all the hack job Lord of the Rings games that came out over the years. Every one of them sucked and they were nothing but a cash grab. I stay far away from movies that were made into games.

Yesterday I watched the movie version of "Need of Speed". I confess that I wa expecting a little bit more, but the movie is relatively interesting and with some good actions scenes. :sunglasses:

Most of the errors are due almost exclusively to studios that force the screenwriters to write stories that have a strong popular appeal, often ignoring the essence of the game itself with the creation of many stories and characters that never existed.

Excellent example! The games based on The Lord of the Rings franchise are pretty bad! It's kind of disheartening. :sweat:

I already read the books and watched the movies, but I never played the game. Can you tell if it's worth it? :sweatsmile: Because I liked the books and the movies (especially the second one :smiley.

I tend to be quite open minded too, but some adaptations are simply unacceptable :triumph: (despite - sometimes - some good flash scenes :sunglasses.

Oh, I think I have to agree with you... Tron was quite disappointing (more than I was expecting to be honest :sleepy.

Disney is a massive hit (whether in the field of films or in the field of games).

The quality of what they do is always something to impress! I'm a big fan of their work. :wink:

I kinda agree with you because sometimes I have the same impression. But I still prefer the animated movies than the live action ones.
