Renting games before buying?

I would highly suggest renting before buying or playing before buying a game because it could turn out that you don't even like that game and if you try to return it you won't get all of your money back.

Yup. It's the same price for hard and soft copies right? And the Witcher franchise at least tried to add freebies when you get the game like posters, comics, and music. Too bad I can't appreciate them much since they're just files I can open and close on the PC. Holding an actual map of the game, a handbook, some items from the game; still would be more awesome than mere files, but at least they tried though.

When you're lucky it's the same price for hard and soft copies. I've seen lots of examples through Amazon where the hard copy actually costs less! I really can't wrap my head around the economics of that one other than to say that convenience must be a much bigger factor for other people than it is for me. To go back on-topic a bit more, I'd even much rather go to a physical game-rental store than subscribe to a mail service which fixed all the little gripes I had about Gamefly. Those little extras that surround the physical market mean a lot to me.

Renting games is not something of actuality at the moment, but even when renting was popular among gamers I still preffered just listening to review and what people had to say then decide if the game is worth it or not.

For me it's having a permanent line to a game. One purchase and it's done. No more added expenses because of broken discs, scratches, or even because the game copy I have is now inferior (some games like Witcher 3 are kind enough to upgrade your game to the Game of the Year edition for free) so it's worth it. Also I can rack up my funds by selling the trading cards that drop on Steam, while having additional gameplay experience with completing the achievements.

I have not bought any nice game without testing it. This has really help me to buy only quality games like Assassins creed, DOTA and the rest. My local game shop allows its 2 star rated customers to test any game for up to 40 minutes.

Hopefully you got Dota 2 for a good price since it's free to play lol. As for AC games, lots of bad reviews for the more recent ones since it seems like they are milking the franchise now and not adding anything innovative. Just pick a time period and add "assassins" in the story that somehow manages to be the reason that a certain historical event takes place. Why not try something new?

I don't rent games simply because where I live there isn't any service that offer this possibility... but I don't think I would try it otherwise, renting can be expensive and you might end up disappointed. I know you can get more disappointed with a more expensive game, but there are always refunds!
But this topic made me think... what happened to demos? Back in the days you could try a small portion of almost every game, to see if your computer was able to run it, to see if you liked it... Nowadays I don't see demos anymore, and it's a bit sad to think about it.

I've never rented a game. I think it's too expensive the way I play games. I like to enjoy the game over several days/weeks. It would probably cost $15+ for the amount of time I would want to keep the game and at that point I might as well just buy a used copy and sell it if I don't like it. Plus you can always watch game play on Twitch/YouTube to help determine if you'd like a game.

I would never rent a video game. Renting is expensive and if I am not satisfied, I cannot get my money back. With the service I use for buying games I can get a refund if I am not satisfied and I have played for less than 2 hours.

I also miss the old days of downloadable demos. I guess developers are too lazy to let people experience the games before buying and instead rely on trailers, gameplay reviews, and publicity.

I've never rented a game, but it seems like a good way to test out a game that you're not sure you'll like. Nowadays, though, with all the YouTube playthroughs and game reviews available online, I'm not sure it's worth it anymore, unless you're the type of person that likes to play lots of games without really getting too attached to them. I'm pretty picky about what I like to play, so I don't think I'd rent games if the opportunity arose.

Back then I used to borrow games from friends if they do recommend some of them, then I buy the game if I like it. I had no experience in renting video games because it was not a thing here back then or I wasn't aware of it. Besides I'll have much more insight in a game and know a little about it when a friend recommends it for me. I wish I knew what it was like to rent games.
Since I play on PC mainly, there are no renting for games, so I rely on available demo versions of the games on Steam. This is my way of determining whether to buy a game or not, unless I'm on a whim of buying the game right away, which is rare.

I have never rented before, it is a very good idea to rent before buying to know how the game is before buying to avoid regrets or money wastage.

I sometimes rent games before buying, but I never rented any FIFA game. I don't usually have time to rent FIFA games cos I immediately go for it after it release.

That looks like a good way to filter the games. I am not sure if we can have similar policy here. Instead people here would not be playing such game by buying it. So I am guessing though this policy is good I guess buyers have to be genuine as well. I have seen testing works to not waste the money on people.

It's like a real life trial version if you like the game you buy it if you don't like it you don't buy it I think it's a really good way to know which games you actually enjoy playing instead of buying a game and ending up not enjoying it as much as you thought

I remember when I was a kid you can rent a PlayStation game just for a 1-hour session. If that one still exists today well I definitely do rent. Renting makes people understand the game make them realize what game they can purchase or play. I believe game renting is rare to find at this moment because of the advanced technology continuously develop. Game renting makes people save their money for the useless game. It can avoid you in buying something that it's not worth it.

Right now people "rent" it by pirating the game. Basically to check if the game can run without problems on their PC (especially when you have a low end PC) They have to be honest when doing this though. If the game works and you like the game, support its developers by buying the game!

I have never rented games before buying them. I mean you had the fun already, you might not be willing to spend an extra buck on buying the game eventually. I read reviews online before i go buy my games, so i might not need to rent as it is mostly done by people to make sure it's a good buy

I have never rented a game before. I prefer to fully buy the game,if it sucks, well, bad luck, and if it's good then it's money well spent.
