Hi, does anyone get annoyed by the choice of commentators for FIFA? Sometimes they are too much for me, I feel like I can't focus on the game. Is it the case in versions from other countries too?

It becomes boring when you play like 300 matches and you know every word he is about to say.

They are the worst, I make fun of them every time I play, because they get so predictable that I know everything that they are going to say. But I like much more the Spanish commentators that the English ones, the Spanish have a lot of fun and empathy and the English are so robotic that it feels like I am playing golf and not soccer lol.

FIFA announcers are annoying but everything else about the game seems authentic and not cheap like madden and NBA live..

Hello, reginafalange, I totally agree, the commentators are too desperate most of the time so i turn down the sound to my game. I hate to hear them all the time and i like to play without sound.

Not just FIFA, all sports game commentators are annoying. They basically say generic stuff that can fit into any situation, which if you play the game long enough, gets repetitive and you'll get sick of hearing it. I personally think it's more fun to call games yourself, like you are the imaginary commentator - just to break the monotony of the whole sound system.

Honestly, I am quite amazed by the work behind it. Not all titles, but there are some crazy good commentator lines in some games. Yes, it can be distracting, but I personally like it, it livens up the game a bit. Have you played NBA? I mean, the fact that commentators start talking about random stuff always intrigued me haha

Yeah, it must have been tons of work reading all those lines during development. But they get repetitive though eventually, especially if you play career mode or GM mode. Being in the same arena night after night and it's basically the same commentary for most of the game. But I think 2K still did a better effort at NBA2k17 compared to WWE2k17, where they had very repetitive dialogue and even errors that they just published.

2k for me has the best commentary. I don't play that many sport games, but they surely do a nice work. Yes, if you play it night after night, it gets repetitive, but without those the game would just seem empty.

I mean compared to the previous games, sure, NBA 2K17 had the best commentary. Season mode and career mode, both of which are advertised as the crown jewel of the game, will have you play with the same team for a long time, and it would really drag on the commentary and would be incredibly repetitive. I know it's asking much, but it would surely be nice to have a less generic setup to the dialogue with these games.

Well, eventually these games will most likely reach the point of where they will adept to your game and use some sort of an AI speech engine to come up with unique stuff every time.

That would be quite interesting. Now think how that technology could be applied to other genres as well. An AI companion to guide you through quests in an RPG? A virtual assistant talking to you in adventure games. Perhaps we could even talk to an AI ourselves in a not so distant future.

Ah, they predicted many things to come, and they did eventually. Sure, it takes some time, but TTS software are one really good example how far some of them have gone. They just need to get alive now and learn. There are tons of games that revolve on enemy AI learning about you and how you play and they adjust to it. If someone came with such a thing for commentary it would be really cool.

Yes, have you played Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain? The AI evolves to better adapt the player's style. So if you aim for the heard the enemies will start using helmets. If you use high caliber weapons enemies will use bullet proof vests and so on. I think it's an amazing display of AI technology. Maybe in the future, they'll be able to mix this AI technology with the voice of real life narrators to create an AI version of the narrator. That would be cool!

I haven't, but I have seen quite some showcases where AI has gone, and it is a great thing. Having enemies that actually observe how you play and counter it in a way or two is amazing, makes the game more realistic, harder and enjoying as well.
