I think playing as a Cop would be a fun experience considering all you do is break the law as the protagonist.

It'll be a blast if possible. And the best form should be a crooked cop who side with gangstars and all. Or one that can go undercover as you said.

You already have the "Vigilante" mode in previous GTAs. And unless your targets are shoot to kill, it's gonna be pretty dull trying to do a PIT maneuver on your target just to capture them. The concept is good, but it's always boring to be the good guy in games, especially in a violent world like GTA. You can play as a hitman though, or an assassin; where you get a target and you have to do specific things like kill them while they are on the road, when they are at a certain area, etc. Or even a time limit to make it more interesting. Now THAT would be more fun.

Like the person above said, there is the Vigilante mode and it has been in almost every title since GTA III as far as I know. I mean, its a bit of a flawed system but I guess it gets the job done. I'm not sure how it is in GTA V, but I know that in all other previous titles (San Andreas, Vice City, Liberty City and their respective Stories,) you essentially drive around in a police car murdering criminals. No arrests, turning on your sirens and stopping speeders, no negotiating. Just shoot to kill. So obviously its not a very fun or realistic experience.

But I guess you could do your own thing and just get in a police car, wait for your wanted level to disappear and drive around town looking for people doing something wrong and just improvise. NPCs can be naughty too, might as well teach them a lesson!

Dawg playing as a cop in GTA would be dumb lit. Even though it really wouldn't be much different than what I do normally, you know; like run over innocent pedestrians and punch random people in their face and rob them. But nothing can happen like you would just do your normal 1st degree murders and nobody would be after you trying to waste or bust you. It would be interesting, I'm sure Rockstar could come up with a storyline of being a cop in the GTA series, it would definitely be something new and I think it's something that a lot of people are looking forward to in the series.

I agree it kinda takes away the purpose of the game. Still I'm not one to criticize variation. I think as long is a well thought and well-developed variation then it's fair game. This reminds me of that old PS2 series "True Crime". I remember running over a handful of civilians just to arrest a couple brawling hobos. Fun times haha.

Personally, the whole point of playing Grand Theft Auto for me is to break and stay above the law. In other words, being a cop in the singleplayer (or multiplayer fun) isn't my interest. Never has, and never will be, to be honest.

I enjoy watching others play cops, especially my gaming friends! Having one of the protagonists as a cop would also be interesting, but probably wouldn't be my favorite character.

This would be pretty hilarious, especially if a player can be crooked. I imagine some "tips" in the form of tickets would be interesting.

I think it would be nice! I sometimes try to steal police cars without damage, and then just tase people in singleplayer, but the fact that it isn't supported makes it way less realistic. I thought about modding something like LSPDFR but turns out that that's only for PC :(

Well I am currently writing this in 2017 and the newest GTA is out and you can't play as a cop normally but there are role playing servers online which let you play the role as a cop which is pretty cool.

Hmmm the game is grant theft auto. And you want to be the cop? Hehehe I'd rather play the villain. I can play something i cant do in reality.

That would be interesting...if you had a matching A.I. "protagonist" that was as reckless as a typical player is that you would have to go after as a cop.

It would never work because the only point of Grand Theft Auto, from the first title in the series, was that it gave you the freedom to do whatever you want as you're a criminal. If you're a cop then that goes out of the window because no cop is going to be going on crazy rampages, be arrested and then continue on as a cop the "next day". The story line would never work. I do like pretending to be a police officer from time to time whilst driving a police car. But I think they should just bring back the police missions back like they had in GTA 3 and 4.

I would love to play as a cop in GTA as it would be great fun to be changed character in GTA. Most of the time we have an option to be a bad person. Players use to steal the things, beat the people, and killing the policemen. So it is a better idea to do different things in GTA now.

I don't think any AI can match the randomness and violence of a GTA player. You can go from casually driving one second, then going on a killing spree while covered by a roof the next. If player vs player, there's really no incentive to be a cop since you have all these rules, and unless it's shoot to kill and you can kill anybody while trying to pursue your target, then there's really no fun in it. If there are no rules when you are a cop, then how are you different from the one you're trying to catch?

Isn't that going to be counter view of the whole game? I mean the GTA is designed to be something against the law. And this means one has to see how that game works. I mean making the person a cop and then playing game would not be a good option. I guess it'd be even making things a bit lot uglier for sure.

I would love the next story of Grand Theft Auto to include multiple protagonists that you could control, or maybe just two would be enough. The first protagonist will be a civillian or an ex-military that has to go through challenges to reclaim himself or save something important. The other protagonist would be a police officer that may be corrupt so that he would be able to cooperate with the other protagonist. It would be pretty nice for a change to have a cop as a protagonist.
