Well. I'm a PC gamer, so naturally it's mouse & keyboard. And that goes for 90% of games more or less.

However there are some exceptions. I do prefer driving games and games like GTA on controller as it also has driving elements in it which I enjoy.
Also controllers are good for fighting games and other small stuff like that.

But as I stated, mouse & keyboard is the way to go 90%. :)

it definitely depends. for fps, mmo, rts, i'd spring for a keyboard/mouse almost instantly. but for fighting games, or racing or platformers, there's nothing like a controller in your hands. if i had to choose though, it'd probably be the keyboard and mouse, if only for the sheer utility and precision it gives.

I'm definitely a fan of the keyboard and mouse combination. To be fair, I haven't really got into hardcore console gaming in the past 5 years. I've tried some controllers but the controls just feel jerky and clunky to me. I can understand how they'd be superior for fighting and racing games though. But if precision is what you need, then keyboard and mouse all the way!

I find that playing Racing Games, or Side scrolling games are better with a Controller. ( I personally use the Xbox 360 controller) But all other games, I find better off with a Mouse and Keyboard.

A controller comes naturally to me so I would go with that. If you didn't have to use a mouse, I would go with keyboard.

I've always preferred a controller. I've tried using a keyboard or mouse or both together, but have never enjoyed playing with them. If I can use my ps3 or Xbox controller to play a PC game I'm all in!

Definitely keyboard and mouse. Firstly, you get much higher accuracy for shooters. Secondly, you can map buttons anywhere, so it makes it much more versatile in terms of functionality. Thirdly, keyboards and mice are practically infinitely customizable. Controllers, on the other hand, are quite limited in selection and the joysticks are not great for games besides racing and perhaps some third-person games such as Assassin's Creed.

Like many have said, it depends on the game. It's way easier to play shooters with a mouse I find, aiming with one is just way easier than a controller. Most MMORPGs are hard to play with a controller because you only have so many keys to bind skills to compared to a keyboard.

But some games are better with controllers, like hack and slash type games imo.

For all types of gaming platforms in my gaming genres, I prefer controller. I find it easily manipulated.

Personally I enjoy both. I have been a console gamer my entire life who recently switched over to PC in the last couple months. On my Xbox One, if it comes to racing games or sports games, I prefer the controller. I play a lot of Overwatch and I found it very difficult for me to play that on a controller, but with a mouse and keyboard I have that mechanical aim that so many PC games use. So I guess for me it's a mix of both, but if I had to chose I would have to go with the mouse and keyboard.

It depends on the game. On point&click, FPS, RTS and similar games the mouse and keyboard combo is so much better than a joypad.
On other games like action games, platform games, or games that are ported from consoles, and so were meant to be played with a controller, well... controller is the way to go in those cases for me! I don't prefer any of the two game methods, I just switch between them when needed.

Comes down to the game itself. For GTA5 I use keyboard and controller since you need to use allot of commands and with mods installed the controller doesn't have all the extra buttons that you need. As for ETS2, I drive using the Xbox controller till I can get an wheel.

I started to get used to the controller more yet still use keyboard and mouse

I prefer using Keyboard and Mouse just because I've been using them for ages even in gaming, and they're the simplest and easiest controller I know. I always needed some times to learn about the controllers when I'm going to use it, while keyboard is the thing I use for literally everything ( not just gaming ) and thus I have mastered it, I guess

Like the majority have said, my use of controller or keyboard/mouse largely depends on the type of the game that I'm playing. I always use keyboard and mouse for games like FPS, MOBA's, RTS and strategies. For the genre of games like: car racing, sports, certain RPG's, interactive storytelling I tend to prefer using my controller.

For example; I find it really awkward and hard to play sports games with my keyboard and mouse so I always plug in my controller and sit back in my comfy chair and game away.

I really love that technology came so far that we are now able to switch between controller and standard PC mouse and keyboard. I'd hate to be forced to use only one for all games.

Although the research is closed, I would like to leave my opinion here.
I particularly like to use the mouse as game controller.

It may sound funny, but I've never had much affinity for controlling games with the keyboard, so the mouse has always been my preference.

I guess it depends on the game. It is without doubt that a keyboard and mouse offers way more precision for FPS games than a controller can and I definitely prefer that when it comes to games like CS:GO, but I have heard of people who prefer controllers, which is understandable of you're coming from a console. But when it comes to certain other games, like racing games, then a controller is a more viable option because the precision that a joystick provides for steering is way better than what any pair of keys can. So yeah, comes down to preferences and more importantly the game. For me, having an awesome mouse like a Logitech MX Master or a R.A.T 9 paired with a great mechanical keyboard will hopefully be a dream come true some day.

For racing games, FPS, and MMORPG games, I never got a feel whenever I tried to use the controller and most of the PC games that I play are of these types anyway so yeah, I prefer using keyboard and mouse for PC. Besides, they do not require extra investment and fully customized mouse and keyboard really makes a lot of difference for me. For example, I use ergonomic keyboard and mouse and I use mouse with weights and that can give me really comfortable gaming experience.

Myself, I typically prefer the keyboard and mouse. It's far superior to a controlled in that you can be more accurate with the mouse and you have Exponentially more buttons than a controller. However, there are some games which lend themselves better to controllers, but they are the exception.

My preference changes from game to game. For racing games there's nothing better than the game controller but first person and strategic games I would have to say Keyboard and mouse.

At home, I do most of my gaming on PC. And some of us go to friends place who own console. So when on console I prefer the controllers. And once you get used to the controllers, it makes you wonder why you waste time handling keyboard on PC. So I think my personal preference goes for the console in that case. Keyboard can be good for some complex physics based games, otherwise not.
