A year maybe. I'm not sure. I just remember they phased out the PS2 very fast after the PS3 came out.

I thought they already stopped making games for the PS3! At least they did with the games I play. Mortal Kombat X was supposed to be released on PS3, but they changed their minds. They already started to phase out PS3 the second they shut down servers for games.

For Christmas I was gong to buy my boyfriend a PS3, but they said that very soon they won't be using online anymore. And I know that's starting to be true because they said I believe the new Black Ops 3, it didn't have all the features that it would if you had the PS4. Like I know that you wouldn't be able to play online, so that's why I got the PS4.

There's that many games available for the PS3 that even if Sony stop supporting it, people can carry on playing it and I'm sure they will. The problem is the online part like you say, and as soon as Sony start turning off the PS3 servers, then that system starts to look a lot less appealing.

I think there a lot of fans of PS3 and they are addicted to playing it. People are playing Playstation 3 are not buying the Playstation 4. It could be the reason of server problem so people will think about buying a PS4. I have PS1 and 2 but my friend told me to buy a PS4 rather than buying a PS3.

We should give a try to the console as it would have the latest features and new games in it.

I still have my PS3 and it's been a while since there was a system update out for it. It seems like Sony has really slowed down with updating the PS3 system. My PS4 is still getting regular updates (and sometimes, it seems like unnecessary ones), so it's not just a lack of effort on Sony. It seems they are trying to phase it out, but it would make some players pretty upset if they do it all at once.

I don't think so that it would take much time to shut it down. Some people even saying that it will be the same as it is.

I'm typing this in 2017 and I haven't been on my PS3 for a while but I'm pretty sure you can still play online on a lot of games. SO two years later servers are still up!

The Sony ps4 has not really gained ground and there are still many users of the ps3,it would be unfair to start phasing them out or limiting them to some servers,I even think upgrades should be available for PlayStation for some years before totally phasing them out just like some mobile phones practice.

Next year will be the last year of the console's 'supported lifespan'. Each Sony console has had a 10 year life-span, the exception being the Playstation 2 which stopped production in 2013. This was because of how successful the PS2 was. It is the most successful console of all time, but that is the only exception, the rest is a 10 year cycle. So production/support will end in 2016. :)
I agree with you about this, and i think too that next year will be the last year.
