How do you take losing when you were young?

When playing games when I was a kid, I used to lose to my younger brothers, and I mean a lot! Too bad for them, because I used to be a sore loser. After losing, it usually will end up with me pressing the power button of the console that were playing at that time, whatever it was, if not the power button, the reset--I never cared for feelings at that time, just my own. I'm not like that anymore, of course. How about you guys? What were your infantile antics when losing?

When I was younger I hated losing to my younger brother - I was older therefore I should have been better. :p It did get to the point once where I was losing rather badly and I pressed the reset button so he wouldn't win.

I'm not like that any more though (most probably because I rarely lose now! :D )

When I lost when I was younger, I'd get very upset and 'rage quit.' Now I just kind of factor it in as that's what happens when you play a video game. Now that I look back it's kind of funny. :)

I was put into sports like karate and football from early age and I learned about sportsmanship. I never was a sore looser and I am so happy for that. People used to tell it is not about participating but about winning whenever I said it was the other way around. I still think sport is about that and all games are small competitions. it is a good feeling when you can say congrats to your opponent with your head up.

When I was young, I never really got mad at losing since I was so used to it. My older cousin would always beat me at whatever we played like Smash bros, Tetris, or whatever. I just remembered having a lot of fun playing video games as a young kid with the occasional winning of course. I would celebrate for a good 2 minutes while my cousin gets mad!

I did sports since I can remember and it made me really competitive and always wanting to win or be the best which translated onto games.

I am an only child so when I played games it was usually with my father or my friends. Whenever I lost or wasn't number one I got frustrated and grumpy :) it just made me wanna play more though. I didn't really have fits of rage or anything. Just the general annoyance and not liking to lose.

Over the years I improved. I don't really care so much about winning anymore. Yes it does feel good to win but everybody has to lose sometimes, right? :p it is just harder to accept as a child.

I was an obstinate kid. Actually most of my playtime would consist of me playing a certain level or battle over and over until I won.

I remember I was once stuck at an underwater stage in God of War, the one where the walls crush you if you don't time your swimming manuvres right...I kept playing that small part for 4 hours, until I was so emotionally fatigued that I picked it up the next day and did the same thing. Thankfully the next day I cleared it pretty easily.

Quicksave and load are my laffy taffy. But games that don't allow quicksave and have extensive levels can be very tiring if you're stuck at the same place each time.

The interactive games I played were in the office during work breaks. My opponents are often my staff. Well, I am not a sour loser even if sometimes I engage in a very serious play. I always bear in mind that it's just a game, a friendly game so with the NBA, I never dreamed of winning over the boys. But whenever I would win, oh, you can guess the teasing of my opponent because a woman is a second class citizen when it comes to computer games. That's how the boys look at us.

Lol, I used to take losing pretty badly. My older brother and his friends would let me play and would always beat me pretty dang badly. I'd always make an excuse why I lost, like saying they cheated or my controller was broken.

This is a really weird story and you might get a little laugh out of it too.

When I was little I used to play a lot of Pokemon. I mean I was kind of addicted. I had stacks of Pokemon cards and I would usually go and mow my neighbors yards after school to get money to use on new Pokemon games. I traded my Pokemon cards with my neighbors because they were about my age and liked Pokemon a lot too. We regularly went over to each others houses and played Pokemon on the DS and played card games in tents in the back yard during summer. Once the new Pokemon: Soul Silver came out, we all got it and I didn't really know a whole lot about the game. Me and one of the older kids had a battle, and without thinking it through, I bet that the winner got to choose any of the other persons Pokemon to keep. Confident in my Pokemon skills, I battled him and after a long match I lost. He looked through my Pokemon and chose one of my favorite Pokemon, and still is, Totodile. I got really angry and yelled at him and told him he couldn't do that. He refused to undo it so I had a plan in mind to get him back. I ran over to my house and got my Roman candles, (It was the day before the fourth of July) I ran over to the front of the house and yelled at him to come out. Once he came out we both sat there in awkwardness while I struggled to light the firework. Once I lighted it I ran towards him yelling, "GIVE ME BACK MY TOTODILE!".

He actually didn't give it back and his parents made me clean up the small black spots on their house from the Roman candle.

THE END

When I was young I played outside all the time. The first games that I really got angry at was first person shooters. Matter of fact, I still get angry at first person shooters. I tend to "Rage Quit" all the time with these kind of games. Some days are better than others, especially when I am playing with friends. Then I'm usually in a better mood, though I still cuss like a sailor.

Losing in my younger days brought out the worst in me back then. I hated losing so much I'd break my controller by throwing it at something, but that would only be when am playing a game by myself, like if I find it hard to pass a certain stage in the game.

This is sort of adjacent to the topic, but thinking about it, a lot of people I gamed with in my younger years were god-awful winners. They would brag over the most ridiculous stunts that got them an undeserved win, rub it in the other participants face, and just generally be obnoxious. I've always responded to that kind of behavior by ignoring it - well, until it boils over at least - which I think is something that informed how I handle it in my later years.

Funnily enough, one of these people was my own mother. She was insufferable enough with Mario Kart 64 ('peachy's got it!'), but of all things that stand out most in my mind was her winning Trivial Pursuit because she was fortunate enough to be alive during Vietnam.

When I was a kid, I would take losing and turn it into determination. I was determine to do better than the last time, and slowly re-doing it over and over until I did finally win. That wasn't how I handled it every time, but most of the time I just shrugged it off and had the enjoyment of the game as my victory.

Losing is something i hate so much, but it is inevitable. when i was young i usually feel very upset and angry whenever i lost to someone or loss a game or anything, i always feel cheated when i loss, i don't see losing as being a normal thing then, all i wished for or wanted was to win and be a victor in whatever i did , but i didn't know then that when you loss in something and learn from that failure it makes you perfect in it if hard work and determination is put forward towards achieving a better result. Whenever i loss , i will always remember those youthful days when i always find who to blame for my failure. I grew up to understand that failure is a stepping stone to success.

Reset the game and try again. I'll beat it eventually. Funny thing though, the hardest games I had as a kid are so simple now if I replay them. Did I just grow up or did I just suck as a player before? We will never know. But that's about it, it's not like an arcade where you have to keep paying if you want to play again. With a computer/console you own, you can spend the entire day trying to beat that level until you finish it. Who's gonna tell you otherwise?

Same here, except it was Tai Kwan Do and Baseball LoL....and later football. Here is the thing, I Never got upset when playing Real sports. I was a team leader and would always defend the worse players when they'd make a mistake and encourage everyone to work with them to help them improve rather than blaming.

However, I would lose my proverbial shit sometimes playing video games, which is partially because I saw them as not being as "real" as offline sports (I was a kid, I didn't understand much). But I rarely got mad at other people or anything, I would get reaaly enraged when playing alone against the AI and getting cheated (or what I perceived as cheated). I would get madder and madder, which made me play even worse, until I would break my controller or something dumb. It was so stupid, but at least I didn't direct it as humans, so guess I will give myself partial credit.

Simply take a visit to my childhood "controlled graveyard" and have your answer LoL. Really didn't happen much, but it did happen. I NEVER lashed out at other people, just the controller or console. The bad thing is that several years ago, I was playing a lot of COD and people cheated SO much that I got enraged....until I came to my damn senses!! But, for a short time, I was a kid again being Victimized by the "Electronic Bullies" of faulty controllers, game glitches, and my own mistakes.
