I've been playing Pandemic alot these days and it's a good introductory game for the world of board gaming. What tabletop games do you guys enjoy with your friends and family?

My favorite board game is candy land. It is very nostalgic for me. I use to love to gather around the table when I was younger and play it with my brother, mom, and step dad. We would laugh and get really into the game. The funny thing about it was that we are all so competitive so the game always got a little heated, but later we would laugh. It is a fun game to play with family members and my boyfriend, son and I will play when he gets a little older.

A bit boring, but hey. I'm gonna say Monopoly. It's practically the mother of all board game. Also the mother of destroying relationships and the mother of games that makes it's players hate themselves and their luck. Tied with Uno, but that's not really a board game (that falls into the card game category I believe). Anyway yeah, whenever me and my friends were going to play a board game, I'd always suggest Monopoly.

Table Top gaming is a huge deal in my family. My uncle is somewhat of a board game enthusiast and has a really intense game collection...we're talking 800+ board games. Here is a photo of his collection when they first moved in, not completely unpacked:

It's kind of crazy. My favorite table top game is Werewolf. It's an awesome card game where a group of people play as werewolf or villager. You have to figure out who the werewolf is before it kills off the villagers slowly. :)

I'm a Scrabble fanatic. Always has and always will be I guess. I really love words and sentences--I really kick ass in this boardgame (one the very few games I am kind of good at.) and I do believe I have made a lot of friends and sometimes enemies with this game. That's life, sometimes you win and sometimes, you don't. I used to rage quit a lot though, if things don't play well with me.

Holy guacamole ! That's quite an extensive collection there ! Family get togethers must be fun. Do you guys have a favorite or two among that collection ?

I personally like playing scrabble. Growing up my family would have scrabble nights and in had some pretty damn competitive family members. It was quite a fun experience and not only that but playing scrabble also forces you to broaden your vocabulary.

We like to play a game called Mensch argere dich nicht it is a German board game and we call it in Serbia something like Hey Man Do Not Get Angry :). It is basically the same thing as Parcheesi, Aggravation or Trouble in America. It is quite simple but eve more when people get angry.

There is a variation of Monopoly that we call Cugopol ( Drinkopoly). What you do is playing a board game with rules how to drink a certain liquor of choice. For example if you get in jail you can skip it by taking three shots bottoms up. A very hard game to play :) The winner is the one who can sit on the chair when we finish up all bottles available.

I played a card game called Dominion which was a lot of fun. I like games that make me laugh, like the board game Quelf. Balderdash is a fun one that gets you thinking.

Some good nostalgia board games for me are Candyland, Clue, and 13 Dead End Drive.

I loved Candy land as a kid. Also Sorry, Connect 4, Monopoly, etc. I haven't played in a long time and would love to get some for my own family to play at home.

I loved playing candy land as well until we list the pieces for the game. Though I love monopoly and have played different versions of it. It makes me feel like queen of the world to own certain properties like boardwalk and the other blue property because they are the most expensive properties. And you better not land on it if I have a hotel. I also love playing connect four, sorry, and jega.

Mahjong is a fantastic game to pick up and learn if you have Asian friends.

I've always liked Cluedo. I'm a sucker for a murder mystery, I'm always watching murder documentaries and thrillers and I love trying to guess whodunnit so Cluedo is the perfect board game for me.

My all time favorite would have to be "Sorry!." To this day, it's the only board game I can actually play and win. Most of the time, I don't even know how, but I've only lost like, two games of Sorry! to date. I also enjoy Candyland, as I used to play it all the time as a child. Another favorite is Mouse Trap, because I loved to watch all of the mechanics happen and whatnot. And, my last favorite is Snakes and Ladders, simply because I used to play it with my mother. I'm not sure it counts, but I also like Mancala. Used to play it with one of my teachers at an old school of mine.

Well, RISK is the king of board games I am surprised that nobody has mentioned it yet. What I like about that game is that the rules are not that complex but the real game is going on in the relationships, betrayals and alliances between the players. Look, you can play RISK online but it is simply not the same, this is the type of game where a video game will never cut it, you need to be there, feel the tension, make pacts, conspire with some other player, I guess it is like poker, if you remove all the personal aspects it becomes very boring, Poker is not about the odds! it is about your face and what you can read on the other person.

Never played Risk IRL. I've played online Risk-esque games and they're pretty fun. My main go to is atWar. Next time I'm at my friends, I'm gonna see if they have risk (they own a bunch of other board games).

Look, it is a whole different experience, the game takes much longer, it is harder to set up and play but once you get the hang of it you will see what I mean. Now your decisions no longer are simply calculations about number of troops and your odds for a successful attack, you have to read people, try to catch them off guard, play with their minds while you talk, form alliances, break them, it is all about diplomacy, this adds a whole new level to the game and you should really try it out.

I think the ultimate setup would be some kind of digital game board so you can place and move troops and throw dice quickly but to have all the other players playing at the same table.

I haven't played board games in decades, not since I was a kid and played it with my siblings when there were storms, and they had to cut off the power. That's pretty much it, I loved Snakes and Ladders, and to be honest, it's the only thing we had because we grew up with not a lot in terms of toys, so we just kept repeating round after round. It wasn't much, but it was a great way to waste time and wait until the power went back on.
