I still own one but it's basically just eating dust at the moment. I used to use it as a DVD-player for the past years but ever since I got a laptop the ps2 is really not needed anymore. Both my laptop and PC can play my ps2 discs and emulators can even upscale the games relatively well so I really have no reason to use it anymore. I won't throw it away though, I've got too many memories with the thing.

I wouldn't recommended using it as a DVD-player. I found out the hard way that after so many uses of that, it starts to scratch up any disc you place in thereafter. Of course, it's understandable to think it's capable of playing DVDs, since it has DVD player capability. However, that system wasn't able to handle it, so I suggest caution to putting something else int there, Qarnage.

Ah thanks for the heads-up! I've never really had any problems so far though and the thing has been used for over 10 years. Never had a scratch on any disc really, guess I'm just lucky. I'm currently using my laptop as a DVD player so there's no need for the ps2 anymore though.

Glad to hear that you were one of the lucky ones, Qarnage. Maybe this only applied to the first released PS2's and the first released PS2 slims? I'm not really sure. All I know is, all I needed for my system to scratch up my stuff a few times to finally come to the conclusion: Not a dvd player. This is a game console. I think my boyfriend said at one point that the reason for it doing that is because DVDs are different from video games when it comes to the disc. The laser acts as an attacker because it's not the same type of disc it's used to scanning.

I have been able to keep all my systems over the years from my Sega Genesis to my PS4. I have most of the hocked up in case I feel like playing an oldie. Its good that I still have all my games even though I have had to re-buy some games and consoles over the years dew to thefts and damages.

Yep, and although I love it, after PCSX2 I see no point firing it up. You see, PCSX2 is an emulator for PC that can play most of its games full speed and with UPGRADED visuals (can re-scale "internally" the graphics to higher resolutions - HD and even further). So, why play the games on their original platform (which I have) and not on an actually better... ah... ehm... "aproximation" of it? Yeah, it's not the real thing - but when I need that, I have it in my living room!

Now, see what you did? You reminded me it's not just my PC and PS3... I've also got a PS2 backlog of titles I have to clear up! Daaaaamn... Let's go play some more Nocturne, shall we? :-D

Till the very moment, I still have a PS2 and over the years I have taken as much care of it as possible. I even still have it in its box with all the cables, all the PS2 memory cards I ever bought, all the controllers that I bought for it (5 controllers) and all the CDs in a huge CD case. I never thought about selling any of those things or even throwing some of the controllers or the CDs, that don't work anymore, as this console has shared many memories with me. It was the very first platform that I bought and used for gaming, as I had a PC prior to the PS2 (but never used it for gaming), it shared the first time that I played a digital game with my dad (FIFA and PES) and I played wonderful games on it, that unfortunately are stopped and not produced anymore.

I still even use it sometimes, when I want to play some of the old games that I used to play, or when I want to play some DVDs and watch some movies! Ahh I can never throw away this console, because for me it is more than that, it is memories...
Anyone else uses PS2 as DVD player?

Yes because of sentimental reasons. I don't plan on throwing or selling it at all. It's still working up to this day and I still have my old games. It's in storage though at the moment (in a console bag that is) since I have nowhere to put it (I have my PS3 and Xbox360 out in the open). I still play PS2 games sometimes to check if it still works and for nostalgic value. Not all games were remastered/had HD versions so there. I had to clean the analog sticks at one time because it was sticky. Hmm...now I'm busy that I can't play on all three consoles anymore (that's not at the same time but you get the picture) and I think I have to look for the memory cards (where did I put those anyway?). Yikes.

I think I still have one. It's somewhere in my dad's study. Since he likes to tinker with electronics a lot, he tends to keep a lot of outdated consoles. However, this thread has just made me realize that I still haven't finished the Kingdom Hearts series, so I think it might be a good time to blow off the dust and get playing, especially when it's almost winter break.

I still have a Playstation 2 and its a fat model at that. The PS2 has always been my favorite game console for its amazing library of titles. Some of the newer consoles should learn from the successes that the PS2 had for it is the number one selling console. These games had heart to them and weren't just for making money.

@JayWifi Heh, the fat one was the best, since by adding the Ethernet Controller (additional extra), you also got a HDD port! That was something many people didn't know, and if you later jailbroke your console, you could install your games to a HDD this way. They don't ALL work, but many do, loading waaaay faster. That way you're also saving your console's DVD drive a bit, so by "hacking" it, you actually prolong its lifetime!

I still own my original fat PlayStation 2 from the early 2000's. I received it for Christmas one year and it hasn't given me an issue since. The thing is built like a tank.

Up to now, I still use my slim PS2 for occasional gaming sessions. But, I have been using it more recently watching downloaded videos from an app called SMS which is a .elf app for use in PS2. I also have SNES and Gameboy emulator apps that I frequently run on the PS2 that are also .elf formats. So, I also use my PS2 for retro gaming.

Yeah, I own one. I'm one of those guys that loves old classics because of the nostalgic feeling it brings back. I got one of the bigger versions that was available when Playstation 2 released. I still play on it sometimes but not as much as I would like to since I have to attend to other stuff. I remember playing a lot of games, Sonic Heroes being one of them.

On a side note, I still have my Playstation 1 left as well :D My favorite game from there were the Crash Bandicoot series, Warped being my favorite one.

I am a big oldie lover and consoles are no exception. Even when the "next gen" consoles were released. I still played my PlayStation 2 on a consistent basis. There are still some games that I have yet to play on my PS2 that I am purchasing soon. Who here still owns a PlayStation 2?

I adored my Playstation 2. I always played it, but unfortunately a few years ago it stopped working. I was miserable! My Nintendo 64 however, due to whatever miracle, still works just fine. Guess it's how they say, they just don't make things like they used to. Such a shame.

I do. I never get rid of my consoles. However, I haven't used it in about eight years. The last game I played on it was Spyro: The Eternal Night.

I don't but I wish I did! PlayStation 2 is what really made me love Sony just a little bit more than Nintendo. I had so much fun with my PlayStation 2, and the sad part is that I really don't know what happened to it. I remember playing Tekken (I think it was Tekken 4) all day long with my friends. I also had some a Madden game or two, which was always good for a party.

I still "own" one but its back at my moms place. To ship it here would cost more than what it would cost to buy a used one. There aren't all that many games that I own on it that haven't been released on PC that I would really want to delve back into. I'm big on the whole 'keeping the NO in Nostalgia' idea. Its not that I don't like old games, if I haven't played a game I am fine with playing it for the first time. I just don't want the classics of my childhood ruined by comparing them to modern games.

I own 2 right now. I have kept every game system I ever had. I lost my Atari, though. I have play station, ps2, ps3, NES, super nitendo,Game cube, n64, Xbox, and on and on. I won't let any of them go anywhere, either.

I still have my PS2, though I no longer use it. The only time it's being used is when my cousins come over.

I still have my PS2, but I haven't used it in years. It's been sitting in the back of my closet in box with all of it's equipment.
